SBEM Calculations (Simplified Building Energy Model) are the Government approved method of showing compliance with Part L of the Building Regulations for non-domestic buildings. L2A covers new construction and L2B for refurbishments and conversions.

The calculations will provide a BRUKL report showing the energy efficiency of the proposal as a whole, predicted emissions, consumption and recommendations for improvements. As with SAP calculations. an Energy Performance Certificate is also generated. T16 Design do not charge extra fees for this.

The calculation considers the building fabric, services, ventilation and renewable technology proposed, to make a prediction of the energy performance and Carbon emissions of the proposal

They are usually undertaken both at the design stage and post-construction, usually with minimal changes between the two.
